Chicago Day Tripping's video about visiting the Travel and Adventure Show! Video by Keystone Visual
It’s January in Chicago and I’ve been hibernating most days. I take one look out my window and I think I’d rather stay inside, futz around on the internet, play video games and cuddle up with a cat on my lap and watch Amazon Prime. But this time of year, I get revved up and escape the winter blues by visiting the Travel and Adventure Show in Rosemont to get myself charged up and ready to travel! After all, it’s not 13 degrees everywhere in the world!
The Travel and Adventure Show is like a dream come true for a travel nerd like me. First off, it’s easy to get to via public transit (right off the Rosemont stop on the blue line), and there’s also convenient parking nearby at the Embassy Suites hotel for $13. Next off, you will get to hear amazing speakers give you tips about how to travel inexpensively and how to get the most of your vacation. Travel guru Rick Steves, Pauline Frommer of the Frommer guide books, Peter Greenberg, Johnny Jet and family travel expert Colleen Kelly are the headliners this year.
I have learned so many travel tips during my visits that I keep in the back of my mind all year long. I’ve seen Rick Steves meditate before speaking, spoken with some of the greatest personalities in the travel field including Rick Steves and Samantha Brown, and been given life-changing advice (including the advice to start this blog!).
Check out the schedule of events beforehand or upon arrival so you don’t miss what you’re most interested in. There’s a Taste of Travel Stage where you can watch world-class chefs prepare delectable dishes from around the globe. There’s a Global Beats stage that hosts performances of dancing styles from Hawaii to Brazil and everywhere in between. No matter your interests, you’re sure to learn a ton of new things.
Looking to plan your dream vacation? Why not get started at the Travel and Adventure Show? You’re sure to find a booth featuring several places on your bucket list and maybe some new places you’d like to add to it. AAA and other companies offer special deals if you book your travel plans there at the show. And don’t forget to enter yourself in some sweepstakes – you never know! I won an all-expenses paid vacation to Italy from Rick Steves a couple years ago and so I am living proof – those kind of things DO happen!
Another great thing about this event is the people you meet while standing in line or waiting for a speaker. Everyone is so eager to talk about their travels and share their experiences with you. Who knows, the person standing next to you could become your next travel partner!
Pop on by to the Travel and Adventure Show this weekend (January 23rd from 10 am to 5 pm and 24th 11 am to 4 pm) and travel the world without ever leaving Chicago!
